‘Cats and Community Celebrate the Holidays on Campus

As the fall semester comes to a close, the holiday season is just beginning. The Davidson campus and town communities will join together to celebrate the season of giving, friends, family, and tradition. Holiday activities have already begun and will continue throughout December while students are still on campus. Here are a few of the ways in which our community celebrates:

Student members of the Southeast Asian Student Association started off the holiday season festivities towards the end of October by hosting the traditional Hindu festival of lights, known as Diwali, on campus. With the help and sponsorship of multiple other student religious organizations and the Davidson Chaplains’ Office, the event was a wonderful celebration open to all on campus.

In the weeks following the Thanksgiving holiday, the Student Union will be decorated for the holidays with displays from Hanukkah Menorahs to vibrant Christmas lights. The Union Board will be engaging students in need of a festive study break by hosting a DIY tacky holiday sweater making event. In addition, the board has organized a campus-wide holiday party to be hosted on Chambers Lawn around that time. In fact, those who attend will be granted a visit from Santa Claus himself as he descends from the Chambers roof!

More traditional holiday celebrations also take place on and around campus. The Duke Family Performance Hall will be hosting the annual Holiday Gala for friends and families in the Davidson community. The Gala will have performances by the Davidson College Music Department with special guest, Dance Davidson, to enjoy the sights and sounds of holiday traditions. Additionally, the Davidson College Presbyterian Church will be hosting the annual Christmas Vespers: A Service of Lessons and Carols with the traditional candlelight worship, as well as the Messiah Sing-Along performed by student soloists and the Davidson College Choirs.
